Wet Land

Homestead Air Force Base

Master Plan

Miami, Florida

The Wet Land Master Plan designed by Chermayeff, Sollogub & Poole, Inc. for the redevelopment of Homestead Air Force Base, south of Miami, is a mixed-use community and campus focused on the conservation and stewardship of South Florida’s ecosystem with a world-class aquarium at its core.  The plan includes the creation of substantial wetlands interwoven with low-rise development, and designed to be a learning resource and omnipresent amenity.  Infrastructure systems include peripheral roadways and parking, a network of pedestrian paths and bridges, a network of water pathways, and environmental engineering utilizing “living machines” for on-site biological treatment of wastes and reuse of water and fuel-cell/hydrogen systems for on-site electrical generation.  This mixed-use development will include housing, hotels, retail shops, an IMAX® theater, research laboratories and other satellite facilities for universities and other Florida-based institutions.
