Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Museum Exhibit Renovation replaces many of the facility’s existing science exhibits located in their oldest and largest gallery. An innovative concept will continue the journey of water through Virginia from a mountain stream to the marshes, to Chesapeake Bay, Norfolk Canyon, the Ocean, and back, in the sense of time. The new gallery will focus on the Virginia of the past, including a tropical rainforest, comparable to the Amazon, of 50 million years ago. By using the forces of change as a theme, four distinct habitats will be represented as a result of changes that have shaped Virginia. Between each habitat experience are interpretive galleries bringing the visitor to an ever-clearer understanding of the causes and effects of the massive global changes required to alter geography and climate.
