San Antonio Museum of Art

San Antonio, Texas

The San Antonio Museum of Art was designed by Peter Chermayeff, assisted by Richard Tuve and others at Cambridge Seven Associates, as the transformation of the Lone Star Brewery complex into a museum of art. Situated on 2.25 acres of public park land on the San Antonio River, the Museum has served as a catalyst for the revitalization of the surrounding area.   It contains approximately 33,000 of exhibit space, located in two towers connected by a lobby at grade and an upper level bridge.  Slow moving glass enclosed elevators inserted within each tower provide visitors with a dramatic and elegant vertical trip from one gallery to the next, each adapted for the presentation of a diverse collection.
