The Palermo Aquarium will be set on a promontory just outside the center of Palermo, Sicily. It is conceived as part of a natural park with the aquarium situated beneath a naturally landscaped area to preserve unobstructed views of the sea. This effort is part of Palermo’s plan to transform underdeveloped coastal property in to public accessible parkland and recreational space. The exhibit design concept focuses on Mediterranean underwater habitats and the visitor path includes sea vistas and access to a terraced walkway along the northern edge of the promontory.
