National Museum of Marine Science and Technology

Master Plan

Keelung, Taiwan

The master plan and conceptual design for the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology was prepared by CSP in collaboration with Carol Johnson Associates, landscape architects as an innovative redevelopment of the Pa-Totze peninsula in Keelung, Taiwan.  It will be the site for a new institution dedicated to the Ocean and its connection to mankind.  Residing in two former power plant structures and a dramatic new ocean habitat building, this world-class museum introduces a new direction for environmental education facilities.  It combines elements of a science/technology museum with those of an aquarium to address themes of regional marine ecology, dynamics of the global ocean, and mankind’s role in ocean exploration, discovery, and stewardship.  The museum will act as an economic engine by attracting large numbers of visitors and act as a demonstration of sustainable growth and the application of green technologies.  These include energy generated by wind, and recycling of wastewater on-site through Living Machines technology.
