The Environmental Project
Coralville, Iowa

In Coralville, Iowa, adjacent to Interstate 80, the Environmental Project will offer visitors the Amazonian tropical rainforest immersion experience, an encounter with diverse life forms.   An enclosed volume over 600 feet long and over 160 feet high, the Environmental Project contains a zoological and botanical garden, using state of the art advances of building technology and energy efficient environmental control.  Combining a destination attraction and learning resource for families and visitors of all ages and levels of education, the Environmental Project will also be an informal learning center where teachers and students will explore new ways to learn from nature. The visitor path begins with a 100 foot high glass elevator ride to the rainforest canopy, then descends on ramped bridges and walkways to the forest floor, finally penetrating the earth and waters to aquatic exhibits below. Classrooms and galleries provide for diverse programs and exhibits of the Iowa plains environment. Other facilities include offices and support spaces, food service, a museum shop and a digital theater.
