The Genoa Aquarium was the centerpiece of the Columbus 1992 World Exposition, at the historic harbor of the city. IDEA was responsible for the design, construction and start-up operation of the exhibition elements and systems. CSP principals Peter Chermayeff, Peter Sollogub and Bobby Poole developed the exhibition concepts, interior architecture, and detailed interior and exhibit design, in collaboration with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop who developed the exterior shell building. The exhibits address the regional Ligurian Sea, the North Atlantic and the Coral Reefs of the Caribbean Sea, from the perspective of the New World/ Old World encounter of 1492. The Acquario di Genova has become a strong voice in Europe for marine conservation and stewardship. Stabilized visitor attendance has made the Aquarium the third attraction in Italy, after Pompeii and the Sistine Chapel. To Print Click Here |
