The
Dublin Aquarium, or Irish National Aquarium, proposed in 1996, stands in the heart of the ancient City,
near the Custom House and the International Financial Service Center, where
the River Liffey flows by the docklands to the sea. A new landmark is proposed, a crystal structure rising from
the water place historically known as George’s Dock. Inside the crystal is a presentation of
diverse life in a multilevel tour of terrestrial habitats, including a
tropical rain forest. Underneath the
water place is a presentation of diverse marine life, including mammals,
fishes, birds, and invertebrates from the open ocean, and from reefs and sea
coasts around the world. Through the
underground entrance, shops, restaurants and aquatic exhibits transform a
gloomy warehouse into a year round festival.
The crystal project will introduce a major public attraction and
educational center to all of Europe, a celebration of the global environment,
a bold statement by, of, and for Ireland at the start of the Millennium. To Print Click Here |
